Northern Kentucky
The Northern Kentucky cluster is comprised of all three Northern Kentucky Counties Boone, Campbell and Kenton. If you aren’t familiar with Northern Ky you should know that the hills make for some of the most challenging but also some of the most scenic rides in the area. For those that are up to the challenge you can find rides here where you will encounter very few cars, hidden river valley roads and vistas where you see for miles. If you are more interested in urban rides we have those as well usually through the streets of Newport or Covington. Most people in the area have ridden on Rt. 8 in Boone county or on Rt. 8 in Campbell county but the real gems in Northern Ky are the rides that lie somewhere between those two well traveled roads.
Weekly Rides
No Brainer: The No Brainer occurs on Monday evenings and starts at the VFW in Ludlow or a shorter version at the Anderson Ferry landing both on Rt. 8. This ride is somewhat unique in that it is not a follow the leader type ride. The ride starts on Rt. 8 in Ludlow and rides to the end of Rt. 8 where it turns around and comes back to the start – thus the no brainer – no chance of getting lost on this ride.
There are generally various speed groups depending on how many riders show up. The great thing
about this ride is that riders can challenge themselves to ride faster and if they can’t keep up with a faster group they can just sit up for the next one to come along. There are also plenty of riders riding at a more comfortable pace if you are looking for a more social ride. The terrain is generally flat to small rollers.
Reser Bike shop Rides: Check with Reser’s bikes / Fusion Studios for their weekly schedule of rides. They usually have various speed groups that start out of Reser’s bike shop in Newport Ky. The rides generally cover Newport or Covington and outlying suburbs.
Iffy Ride: The Iffy Ride is based out of Alexandria which is about 13 miles south of downtown Cincinnati. Every week we try to ride new and challenging routes through the rolling hills of Northern Ky. The average speeds will be between 16 and 18 mph including hills which means we will be low to mid 20s on the flats. This is one of the oldest running rides in the area and it runs all year round if the temps are over 40 degrees and the roads are dry.
