WEST CHESTER WHEELMEN (WCW)

GEOGRAPHIC AREA
WCW covers a wide area in the northern Cincinnati suburbs, including Hamilton, Fairfield, West Chester, Liberty Township, Mason, Lebanon, Middletown and all of the smaller communities nestled in between.  We have ride start locations in most of these townships.  On the weekends, we have no boundaries.

RIDES
Our philosophy, regardless of the pace of any particular ride is that we ride for fun and no one is left behind.  We always establish wait points at which the faster riders will allow slower riders in the group to catch up.  If the situation dictates and there are enough riders and ride leaders, we will split into multiple pace groups.  WCW rides start after the Spring Opener in early April and usually close down with the dwindling daylight in October.  Our other primary philosophy is that we never want you to get bored by having to ride the same route in any given week or maybe even in any given month.  We use a variety of routes and options within each route to ensure you will be a well traveled cyclist.  Following is an overview of our ride menu.  Please consult the detail calendar for specifics each week.

EVENING RIDES
Our evening rides start at various locations throughout the above geographic area.  Start times vary from 6 to 7PM depending on time of year and start location. Mileage varies from 20 – 35 miles, depending on the time of year and the ride pace.  The terrain also varies from flat to hilly, depending on the target experience level of the ride.
Wednesday – These rides are for those who prefer a challenge and a faster pace.
Thursday – These rides are for those who prefer a casual pace.  New comers to cycling are encouraged to join these rides.  These rides will always start at the Trek Store at Voice of America.  The routes will be in the 15 mile range.

WEEKEND SAFARIS

The WCW Weekend Safaris have no boundaries.  These rides start from a variety of locations, usually in the early morning.  Routes range from 40 – 100 miles and the terrain is usually challenging.  You may find yourself riding in Eastern Indiana, as far east as Hillsboro and Chillicothe and any place in between.  Some of our favorite areas include the Whitewater River from Brookville to Cedar Grove Indiana, Oxford, Germantown, Lakengren, New Paris, Morrow and the Caesar’s Creek area.  On occasion, we organize overnight trips to some of the more remote areas.  For the more casual riders, we do some shorter rides on the beautiful network of bike trails throughout the region.  Another thing on the menu at WCW is to do “destination or theme” rides to take advantage of the many festivals and other outdoor activities throughout the area.  Again, all details will be posted on the events calendar.

OFF SEASON ACTIVITIES
WCW doesn’t rest when the snow flies.  We continue weekend rides along the breakfast format until the salt trucks begin blanketing the roads, at which time we turn our attention to activities such as maintenance workshops and other special programs aimed at providing our riders with useful information to enhance their cycling experience.
