Fernald Ride – October 2009

October 18 – WCW Sponsored All Club Ride which will start from the new Visitor’s Center at the Fernald Preserve at 7400 Willey Rd, Hamilton, Ohio 45013. This is a new ride co-sponsored by the folks at Fernald. It’s free to club members. Non members can ride by joining on the day of ride. Maps and marked routes will be provided, along with SAG support. Route maps are now posted on the website. I am currently working with the folks at the Visitors Center, but we will hopefully have some snacks and drinks for you at the ride start as well. There will be three options with the following approximate distances:

  • Miami Whitewater Park Route - 15 Miles. A great route for beginners which will be mostly on the Miami Whitewater Park bike trail.
  • Carolina Trace Route – 27 Miles. A scenic journey up to the Carolina Trace and back down one of my favorite downhill runs in this area.
  • St Leon Route – 64 Miles. A more challenging route for the adventuresome crowd. The first half is hilly, but the second half is mostly flat to rolling.
  • All rides begin at

    10AM

    .

  • All routes have the option of spending some time on the Miami Whitewater Trail.
  • Please plan to spend some time in the Visitor’s Center, as it has a wonderful display of the former Nuclear Feed Materials Plant and its storied history. I spent the last 9 years of my working career at this plant and really enjoyed seeing the Visitors Center.
  • Rain day for this ride will be Sunday, October 18, 2009.
  • Please direct any questions to Walt Fick (513-779-4503)
